Today I gave a lecture in an undergrad class called "Multi-Ethnic Education." I attempted to explain some basic things about education in the US and to give some examples of issues people are grappling with (that are tied to race). All in all it was nothing particularly exciting, except that it was a reminder that I miss teaching. And it made me think about how fun it would be to teach future teachers.
I've been expending a lot of mental energy on my job search lately. Thankfully, things are moving very slowly, so I can't panic yet and I don't have to make any big decisions. I figure I should pursue the jobs I've always pursued and then if I don't have something by August, I can start thinking about other, non-school jobs that might be interesting.
My friends Cathy and Scott were here this weekend. That was fun. We visited wineries and hung out around town. Now finally, after forever, Jen arrives on Friday morning. I'm pretty sure this blog is going to fall apart after that... too much fun to be had and project to be finishing. :)
Things are in a bit of a lull right now, as schools are on holiday for 2 weeks and I'm headed to MIlford Sound on Saturday. We're hiking the MIlford Track and then meeting my friend Anne and driving up with west coast of the South Island. I can't wait and my mind is a bit checked out of work for now. Today I tried to make myself transcribe an interview and I just couldn't do it.
I'm in the middle of reading three books at once, which isn't working too well. I think I need to pick one, give myself a one-week deadline and make it happen. Last week I did that with "Teaching History for the Common Good." SUCH A GOOD BOOK.
So, that's my boring update. Life is good.
