Sunday I walked from the Miramar neighborhood back to the Wellington CBD. Along the way, I came across a fenced-in housing construction site. Coincidentally, it is managed by the Te Aro Pā Trust, the same group I have been learning about as I observe in a school here. Te Aro Pā used to be on Te Aro Flat, just around the corner from where I am currently living. The Ngāti Ruanui and Taranaki people were pushed off their land by colonists by 1870. Settlements like this one are part of the reparations from the government.
